Anyone 16 or older and not enrolled in high school may receive free, basic academic instruction in the following areas:

GED - General Educational Development diploma
ESL - English as a Second Language
Workforce Preparation
Family Literacy
Basic Skills Enhancement
Citizenship/Civics Education
Adult High School diploma 

To take the GED test, candidates must:
* be 19 years old
* present one form of ID to show proof of age and residency
Non-Minnesota residents may take the GED exam in Minnesota if they are 19 years old.
Minnesota residents between the ages of16-18 may take the test if they complete the requirements and receive assigned age waiver from the Chief GED examinor for the state ofMinnesota.
 
There are 5 sub-tests in the GED test battery :
* Math
* Language Arts / Reading
* Language Arts / Writing
* Social Studies
* Science
 
GED candidates must obtain a standard score of 410 or higher on each of the five tests AND a total standard score of 2250 or higher on the entire battery (average score of 450 on each test). Retesting may be done until minimum scores are obtained. Testing and retesting fees if necessary are determined by the test center. In any calendar year, candidates may take any one of the five GED sub-tests no more than three times.
 
 
Testing schedules are determined by local GED testing centers. The State GED Office does not maintain detailed information for individual test centers. To make an appointment to take the GED test, contact the test center nearest you.
