American Legion Auxiliary
The American Legion Auxiliary believes that the more knowledge our young people gain, the better citizens they will become. That is why the Warroad American Legion Auxiliary Unit #25 is so committed to education. Investing in the education of our young people is investing in the future of our country.
American Legion Post #25
The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. Their intent in establishing a scholarship fund is to encourage young men and women from Warroad to pursue their educational dreams with support from their local American Legion chapter..
American Legion Americanism Award
The American Legion Americanism Award is presented to two graduating seniors - one boy and one girl. The award is based on Courage, Honor, Leadership, Patriotism, Scholarship and Service. The purpose of the award is to give recognition to the boy and to the girl who are deemed most worthy of the high qualities of citizenship and of true Americanism. The recipients of the award are voted by the school faculty committee.
Goldstrand-Beadle American Legion Post #371
The Roosevelt American Legion supports the ideals of patriotism and service. Their intent in establishing a scholarship fund is to encourage young men and women from the Roosevelt area to pursue their educational dreams with support from their local American Legion chapter.
VFW
The Warroad VFW post #4930 understands the meaning of sacrifice and dedicated service for the causes of helping country and community and
promoting freedom and patriotism. This scholarship chooses a student who exemplifies a good academic standing, as well, as exhibiting community support and patriotism.
Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus is a Worldwide organization of Catholic Men. The local group at St. Mary's Church helps with multiple projects at the church and in the community. The Knights also give donations to various groups in the community. Some of the groups they have supported are: Post Prom, Trap Shooting Team, Track & Field Team, Senior Meals, Eagles Gas Cards, Special Olympics, to name a few. The Scholarships are open to seniors of St. Mary’s Catholic church. The scholarships are based on church involvement and character.
Allison Marvin Memorial
Allison Marvin was a good all-around student and athlete. She loved people and had a desire to share with others, which lead her to a profession in teaching. Allison was a recent graduate of Bemidji State University when her life was taken from her. This scholarship was established by her father to help young men and women who attend Bemidji State University to move more easily towards their goals. It is also a reminder to all of us that life is a celebration to be enjoyed to the fullest, to be shared with family and friends, and later to be remembered with delight.
BSU Peggy Johnson Memorial Scholarship
To honor the memory of her sister, Susan Marvin established the Peggy (Marvin) Johnson Memorial Scholarship Endowment for Bemidji State University (BSU) students. This is a tribute to Peggy and her husband, Sam; who both graduated from BSU and earned a reputation for volunteering, giving back to their communities, being passionate about education, and displaying strong family values.
Sarah Wahlberg Memorial Concordia College Congregational Scholarship
This scholarship fund was created to honor and memorialize Sarah Wahlberg. Her family remains active in the Roseau Community and Messiah Lutheran Church. They are committed to supporting students from Roseau County to pursue their educational dreams at Concordia College in Moorhead.
Arts & Athletic Scholarships Warroad Coaches Association
The Warroad Coaches Association Scholarship is given to a deserving multi-sport athlete who has dedicated time to three-sports in his or her high school career. The Warrior coaches believe that both the students and teams benefit from being involved and appreciate each athlete's dedication and hard work.
Warroad Warriors Trap Club
This newly established scholarship recognizes an individual in good standing with the Warroad Warriors Trap Team that has been a participant in the Warroad Warriors Trap Club for a minimum of three years, with a minimum GPA of 2.5.

The Glen and Evelyn Wing Scholarship was started by their daughter, Jean Irby, who wanted to encourage student to go into teaching or an education related field.
Margaret Wallin Marvin Communications Scholarship
This scholarship award was created in honor of Margaret Wallin Marvin and is given to the student with the strongest writing and journalism skills in the senior class, This recipient is selected by the faculty committee.
Vernon J. Pick Memorial Scholarship
Vernon J. Pick was a engineer, geologist and early aviator that called Warroad his home. He became nationally known in the 1950’s for his discoveries in the uranium mining industry. This scholarship fund was established to support talented high school seniors who will be pursuing a degree in Science, Engineering and Mathematics..

Brian King Memorial Scholarship
Who was Brian King? He was a student who graduated from Warroad High School in 1992. He played Hockey and Baseball, went on to play Baseball at Northland Community College and eventually to Bemidji State College, graduating with a degree in Criminal Justice. He eventually came back to Warroad where he became the Port Director at the Warroad Port of Entry. Who is this memorial award for? Brian always had a smile on his face whenever or wherever he played. His true love was baseball, but he was not beyond trying anything (even beach volleyball). He was also a person that was willing to do anything he could that would help others. He felt it was his duty to give back to the community that had given him so many enjoyable moments. That is who Brian King was and that’s the kind of student he would want to help go on to school.
Jennifer Johnson Memorial Scholarship
The Jennifer Johnson Memorial scholarship was established by Jennifer’s family. Her mother, Janet Johnson was a longstanding educator in Warroad.. It is the intent of this scholarship to honor Jennifer's memory, and her love of helping others to continue their educational pursuits.
Nick Moyer Memorial Scholarship
The Nick Moyer Memorial scholarship was established by Nick’s family and friends. It is the intent of this scholarship to honor Nick's memory, and his love of Football, by helping others to continue their educational pursuits. This scholarship will provide annual scholarships to qualified students who are pursuing post-secondary education through a college, university, or tech school.
Justin Knebel Memorial Scholarship
The Justin Knebel Memorial Scholarship was started shortly after he passed away on October 14, 2002. That December, Coach Oftedahl, Coach Sage, and a few other people organized an alumni game in Justin’s honor. Justin had only gotten to participate in one alumni game before his passing. At the alumni game, they raised over $5,000 that was used to start the scholarship. This scholarship has two parts. Besides the scholarship given each year, another part is a fund that is used to pay for expenses incurred by the girl’s and boy’s basketball teams. The fund has paid for things like entrance fees for tournaments, t-shirts, activity fees, and end of the year banquet fees. Each December, we have an alumni game and raise money for the scholarship and fund. Susan I. Marvin Scholarship
The Susan I. Marvin Scholarship was established by her executive team in December 2013 as a way to give back to the community in a meaningful way that acknowledges Susan’s passion for education and citizenship. The intent of this scholarship is to honor Susan by helping others to continue their educational pursuits.
Lee Hafdahl Memorial Scholarship
The Lee Hafdahl Memorial Scholarship recognizes the value of community service and the change that it can bring within a student by giving back to organizations and individuals. This is not an award to the a student with the most “hours”, but one with powerful experiences gained through the act of volunteerism.
Jack & Betty Foster Scholarship
This newly established scholarship provides funding for annual scholarships to qualified high school graduates from Minnesota Independent School District #690 (Warroad) in memory of Jack Foster and honoring his wife Betty and their love for the Warroad community.
Morris Taylor Memorial Golf Scholarship
The Morris Taylor Memorial Golf scholarship is a recently endowed fund with the NWMF by the Taylor family, however it was originally started by the Leach family to honor Morris Taylor and his support of the golfing community in Warroad. This scholarship honors senior golf team member with the greatest contributions made to the team.
Bruce and Ellen Atwater Education Scholarship
The Ellen Atwater Memorial Scholarship is offered to students who are pursuing post-secondary education in the healthcare profession, with an interest in programs such as medical records, through a trade school, tech school, or other non-profit vocational or technical education. Ellen had been a high school dropout, but always understood the value of a formal education. Later in her life she received her G.E.D. from Warroad High School and trained as a medical records librarian. She later became the manager of the medical clinic in Warroad and later the administrator of Warroad’s nursing home. Her value for formal education and her hard work to build her own career, prompts this gift to deserving students.
Edward & Agnes Brandli Scholarship
The Edward & Agnes Brandli Engineering and Education Scholarship has been established as an award to graduating seniors or alumni from Warroad High School. The intent of the award is to encourage graduates to pursue post secondary education in engineering or teaching professions.
Patrick O’Donnell Memorial Scholarship
Patrick O’Donnell graduated from Warroad High School in 1969. He was a star athlete and was active in various activities such as National Honor Society and Student Council. He showed pride in his teams and family and always wore a big smile. In honor of Patrick, his family and friends have established the Patrick O'Donnell Scholarship to help students further their educational pursuits.
Dorrance H. Johnston Scholarship for Engineering
Dorrnance H. Johnston attend the U of M and earned a bachelor's degree in engineering in 1931. He graduated in the midst of the Depression and was unable to obtain work in his field. Dorrance returned to Warroad and worked as a commercial fisherman and mink rancher, He used the knowledge he attained in engineering throughout his personal and professional life. The scholarship honors Dorrance’s life, his passion for engineering and the desire to help another engineering student attain their goal.
Presidential Freedom Scholarship
The Presidential Freedom Scholarship acknowledges students that have contributed to their community through exceptional volunteer service.
Farmers Union Oil
The Warroad Farmers Union Oil Company Scholarship is given to students who plan on pursuing a field that relates to agriculture.
Gaylord A. Gunderson Memorial Scholarship
The Gaylord A. Gunderson Memorial Scholarship was established through the estate of Mr. Gunderson. The intent of this scholarship is to honor Mr. Gunderson’s interest in young people and education by helping others continue their education pursuits. The scholarship will provide to students who are pursuing post-secondary education through a trade school, tech school, community college, or other accredited non-profit technical or vocational education/training programs
Community & Business Scholarships Border State Bank The Border State Bank Scholarship is given to a student who has demonstrated strong community involvement and involvement in extracurricular activities. . Education Minnesota- Warroad Education Minnesota is the leading advocate for public education in Minnesota. Their 70,000 members work in pre-K-12 schools and higher education institutions statewide. This scholarship is given annually to a student pursuing a degree in Education.
Marvin Companies Scholarship Program
The scholarship is available to children of the Marvin companies’ employees to apply for. A Marvin Company scholarship is merit based and awarded annually. . At least one parent must be a regular, full-time employee to be eligible for this award.
Grace Woods “Prowler Strong” Scholarship
This scholarship fund was created in memory of Grace Woods, by her parents, Todd & DeAnna Woods, along with good friends from Springsteel Island. Grace left an indelible mark on everyone she met. We are honored to present this scholarship to a Warroad student this evening.
Floan-Sanders
The Floan - Sanders Engineering Scholarship is given to a student who has aspirations to continue their education in the engineering field.
Lake Family Dental
Dr. Mike & Dr. Mark Thiele give a scholarship to one boy and one girl. The criteria may be expressed in their statement: “We would like this to be a recognition to students who deserve, need and desire encouragement to continue to try hard to do their best.” They look for candidates who are not usually in the limelight; someone who can be recognized, encouraged, patted on the back and told ‘Good Job’! It is our sincere desire to provide a boost to a young person who is trying to be the best that they can.
Altru Health Care System
This scholarship is awarded annually to a Warroad High School graduate pursuing a degree in health care or a health care related field.
LifeCare Medical Center
LifeCare Medical Center Scholarship Fund is a scholarship offered to Roseau County students who plan to pursue a career in a healthcare related field.
Frank and Margaret Marvin Scholarship Program
Frank and Margaret Marvin established a new scholarship program in 2016 for students that will attend a 2 year college, trade or technical school. Candidates will have participation, involvement, or demonstrated positive leadership qualities non-paid community service activities.
The William S. and Margaret I. Marvin Scholarship
Established by the Marvin Family, William S. and Margaret I. Marvin Warroad Scholarships recognize graduating Warroad High School seniors who exemplify the civic-mindedness of William and Margaret Marvin. Seniors must be planning to attend an accredited two- or four- year degree-granting program on a full-time basis. They must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale. Students are selected on the basis of academic achievement, community involvement through volunteerism, and participation in school-based extracurricular activities.
Many of our scholarships this evening were created as memorial funds to honor and remember those we have lost: students, children, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, and friends. This is a gift borne out of grief and love. Students, how will you honor these people? Go out and be magnificent. Live your lives and make us proud.
